Suetables #BrickandMortar By Josh Sherman
If someone told Sue M Henderson a decade ago that a hobby she took up in 2004 would become a business, she would’ve laughed. “I would never have believed it,” says Henderson, who opened the first brick-and-mortar location for Suetables, her jewellery brand—worn by models Coca Rocha and Monika Scharre—in June. Already an online shop, Suetables sells charms, bracelets, earrings and more—but with a personalized touch: customers can choose to have words hand-stamped on the jewellery. Using a special hammer, Henderson and company press letters into the pieces right by the 850-square-foot shop’s window. “The theme that drove the vision for the space is modern craft,” explains Henderson, adding customers often say the shop is the embodiment of popular online craft marketplace Etsy’s aesthetic. “It is old world meets new world,” adds Henderson. Rustic barn-wood shelves meet painted featured walls. “I love that juxtaposition of everything,” she says.
