Today, on National Siblings Day, I want to celebrate my beautiful, talented and supportive sister, Kathy - without whom my life would not be the same.
Few people know that my sister helped me build Suetables. Kathy worked with me for a few years after Suetables took off in 2005.
She was the one who drew Suetables designs, hand stamped most of the orders (still, the best hand stamper yet) and traveled to Mexico with me, dangerously winding her way through the narrow cobblestone streets of Taxco in a car - with me giggling nervously in the passenger seat.
She is the only person I know who happily let me “fire” her. I needed to work full time with Suetables to support my children.
Kathy is my unedited download, my safe place to land and my only sibling with whom I share family memories and the same history.
Note: The jewelry pictured here is our Suetables Luxe line - something Kathy and I dreamt in 2006 when Holt Renfrew asked us to pitch a gold and diamond Suetables line. After much time, effort and money, Holts simply said, “We really like it but it is too similar to Links of London.” Links of London is an internationally renowned jewelry company that was the jewelry sponsor at the 2012 London Olympics. While Suetables Luxe never went into production, we were both thrilled by the compliment and comparison.
