I have been following @Blumenbabe’s, aka Heather Lafleur’s, high-fashion original illustrations on Instagram. Along with many others (including designer Anya Hindmarch), I have regularly commented on them and LIKED many of them.
So, it was to my great delight, that these beautiful Suetables illustrations appeared on my Instagram feed via @Blumenbabehttp://instagram/blumenbabe
I haven’t seen Heather in about 20 years but we’ve kept tabs on each other. In her teens, she showed up almost daily on our Montreal doorstep, clad in our green-and-navy plaid school uniform, to pick up my sister to walk to school.
Her design aesthetic has always been admirable. Heather had a cool wardrobe and funky modern red kitchen cabinets and decor long before I had even heard of Dwell Magazine.
While I have lived in one country my whole life, Heather has lived in four. She speaks three languages, has mothered two children and harbors one single passion: design.
And as synchronicity has it, I am flying to Heather’s current hometown of Munich for March Break (en route to ski at St. Anton with the whole family). It turns out, I am staying across from her hairdresser and I will drop off some Suetables for her and her kids as a thank you for her inspiring work.
In addition to running her own design practice www.lafleurdesign.info, she is now having fun pairing her love of drawing with the world of style. You can see more of her fashion illustrations at http://fashionfreude.blogspot.de
Stay tuned for more illustration magic from @Blumenbabe and Suetables.
