Saddle Up For 2014 With A New Word

Saddle Up For 2014 With A New Word

Susan Henderson

Right now, our studio is full of new shipments of blank sterling silver charms, orders and words as people are choosing a word to act as a touchstone for 2014. According to the Chinese calendar, it is the year of the horse.

My word for 2014 is 'rooted'.

It ‘arrived’ this week while listening to author Danielle Laporte in my car. She said to put aside, for a moment, all your ‘to do's’, colour-coded charts, goals and five-year plans and focus on how you want to feel in 2014.

“What is success,” she asked, “if you don’t FEEL great?”

And in that moment I pictured myself, as I did for much of the holiday season, stamping silver, emailing with hundreds of customers, running out of fuel and often feeling overwhelmed. You can have all the money in the world but if you don’t have the FEELINGS you wish to feel, you have not really achieved what you really desire.

And in that moment, something shifted within me.

The idea that all my decisions this year aim at feeling rooted, grounded and centered makes them so much easier to make.

A friend pointed out to me that the year of the snake over. It is the year of the horse. It is time to ‘shed our skins’ and ride off into the sunset. Like a horse, we might have unexpected adventures, fast victories and good fortune.

Now is time to ride in the right direction.

If you are looking for a word, you might want to read my other blogs about selecting words:
