The burning question every year is: What do you want more of in 2018?
I almost felt a rebellious need to ignore the resolution bandwagon this year. I read bits of the book - The Life-Changing Magic of Not Giving a F*ck by Sarah Knight (I actually met her New Year's Eve) and I loved her brazen acceptance of living your truth, forgetting conventions, acknowledging some of the insincere spiritual BS that is out there and letting it all go. I am not typically a 'joiner.' I was exhausted after a busy holiday season. I have opened second Suetables shop five weeks before Xmas...for f*ck's sake, isn't that enough?!
Do I need a resolution that may just end up making me feel bad?
But, after a holiday south (yes, I missed the coldest week of the year in Toronto - don't hate me!), listening to the waves roll in every day, enjoying a day of sailing and swimming in the deep beautiful ocean with friends & family, watching my boys surf the waves and remembering my father's positive spirit so ingrained in my soul, I breathed in the salty air and felt inspired again. Renewed.
This year, my body told me what I needed. In fact, it has been screaming for months - stretch, girl. You are getting older. S-T-R-E-T-C-H!
The cliche is true - what you focus on expands. So, this year, thanks to my stiff body, my word is STRETCH. Yes, I need to stretch in the classic way and have discovered, thanks to my son, great free yoga classes on YouTube. I have done five classes already and, it is possible, I am slowing getting taller and maybe even a bit nicer;) I have also chosen STRETCH because I want to reach out of my comfort zone and become better in so many ways - create more beautiful things, be kinder, better, smarter and more intuitive.
I just ordered the book, thanks to a new friend called, "What got you here, won't get you there" by Marshall Goldsmith. I think the title is so perfect and a great metaphor for life. We all need to stretch outside where we are right now and evolve. So, STRETCH it is. What do you want in 2018? What is your word?
