The Magic Of Dragonflies

The Magic Of Dragonflies

Susan Henderson

I am lying on my back, eyes closed. It is summertime. I am lakeside on a wooden dock in Lost River, Quebec. I hear the beat of wings. A dragonfly lands on me. I sit up, startled.

If you watch a dragonfly closely, they are fantastic flyers, darting like light, twisting, turning, changing direction, even going backwards as the need arises. With age and maturity, they can fly and dart in six different directions. They are inhabitants of two realms - starting with water, and moving to the air with maturity, but staying close to water. In the Japanese culture, the dragonfly was honored as a symbol of joy and new light, and also strength, courage and good luck. Dragonflies are old and adaptive insects. They are reminders that we are light and can reflect the light in powerful ways if we choose to do so.

Apparently when a dragonfly lands on you, it means that you will receive “excellent news from someone living far away from home.” Dragonflies are “messengers to remind us to tell the truth.” They are also strongly associated with light, illuminating those things that need to be brought into the light to chase out the shadows and the untruths. They also symbolize moving past the illusions that hold us back from growth and change. https://www.suetables.com/ca/shop/charms/taitin-dragonfly

Admittedly when the dragonfly lands on me, I sit up with a start, but realizing it is a dragonfly, I extend my arm and it comes back for a moment to touch my fingertips. Magic.

P.S. Tory Burch is also doing dragon fly embellishments in her fall 2013 line. https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=10151729908470910&set=a.78285790...
