My baseball cap-wearing, sports-pants boys would not fit in in Paris nor would my 60’s inspired, hand-me-down wardrobe I endured as a kid growing up in Montreal. Paris has changed so much since I was a child and parts of it are unrecognizable to me. A lot of this has been good change in the form of more art, neighborhood-defining restaurants, shops and more.
This month, Tony and I were in Paris and we couldn’t help but notice the immense children’s fashion market. The sheer number of fashion brands and retail stores solely devoted to children was the shocking - Gucci, Prada, Armani and more lined the malls.
Parisian kids were the best dressed children we have ever seen. There were no runners and sports pants - only fine leather shoes or boots and proper jeans, pants often topped with a cute hat - not a sports cap anywhere! Little girls wore adorable matching outfits with leather flats, ballet slippers or fashion boots in all shades of leather and suede.
Little fashion-loving North American girls would fit better in Paris with the exception of the pop-star fashion mentality which include rock and roll T-shirts, sparkles and cropped shirts. Parisian girls are proper! Children are only seen at breakfast and lunch in restaurants but not at dinner - unless they are “behaved” as one restaurant owner explained. They are home with their family or nannies.
Suetables Kids was launched to cater to the the children of my mom friends who asked for it. That simple. However, Nordstroms called me last year (sending me 40-page contracts to carry Suetables; and then that buyer left for Forever 21 and the phone stopped ringing) and told me that Suetables Kids stands out in the jewelry market. Their buyer tole me there is simply very little in the jewelry market for kids that is quality. Most of what you can buy in North America is disposable leather and cord arm candy or beads/rhinestones for little fashionistas.
So, as you shop this season for children, consider nice leather shoes, a fashion cap or even a lasting personalized sterling silver charm necklace https://www.suetables.com/ca/shop/suetables-kids/kathryn-love-letters-kids or bracelethttps://www.suetables.com/ca/shop/gold/sofia-gold-plate-kids and https://www.suetables.com/ca/shop/sales/charlie-charm-bracelet-kids. If you go to Paris with your children (or Yorkville on a sunny Saturday in Toronto!), they will fit right in.
